Using your Step Up scholarship for tutoring
Does my Step Up scholarship cover tutoring?
Yes. Tutoring is an approved expense for Step Up scholarships that fund education outside a traditional classroom. Ave Maria Learning is a Step Up direct provider for Part-Time Tutoring Services, so you can use your scholarship for our tutoring in person in Ave Maria or online across Florida.
Which Step Up scholarships can I use for tutoring?
Families use two programs with us: the Personalized Education Program (PEP), for homeschooling families, and the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Unique Abilities (FES-UA). If you are not sure which one your student has, you can see it in your EMA account.
Program rules change from year to year. For the current details, check Step Up For Students.
Do I have to pay out of pocket?
No. We use Direct Pay: you reserve scholarship funds for us in EMA, and we invoice Step Up week by week for your student's classes. Step Up pays us directly, so the tutoring comes out of your scholarship, not your wallet.
How do I reserve funds for tutoring in EMA?
Sign in to EMA, Step Up's Education Market Assistant, and open the Marketplace. Search for “Ave Maria Learning” and reserve funds for your student under Part-Time Tutoring Services. You'll get an email from Step Up confirming the reservation. The reservation itself is not a charge: we invoice against it week by week, for the classes on your student's schedule.
What subjects can I use it for?
Every subject we teach, from elementary math to calculus, reading and writing, science, and test prep for the SAT, ACT and CLT. See the full list of subjects.
How do I get started?
Tell us what your student needs and mention that you're paying with Step Up. We'll call you, find the right tutor, and help you with the reservation if it's your first time.
